Hello sweet sweet journeymen&women,

I hope this Monday finds the sun shining on your back but not in your eyes. I’ve been in Los Angeles for the past few weeks, working on tracks with our one and only Dave Tweedie. I’m about to get ready to head back to the Bay Area – we have a show Friday at the Independent and we have lots of rehearsing to do this week!

It’s been a really interesting trip down here – I lived in Los Angeles for a few years when I was in college, but this trip has been really different. This time around, I have all the time in the world to play and write and work on music, and that part feels almost dream-like.

I did come down with what I felt was writers’ block, I had some ideas but I wasn’t ready to commit to any one of them and see it all the way through…. Dave and I sort of changed up our program in the studio, or rather, I started rocking on his frequency, ’cause he’s so prolific and all that… and voila, 3 days in the studio yielded 3 different songs. It was like letting the lid off my kettle to let the steam fly out.

So, that’s my ‘thing’ for the season: fuck inspiration, it can’t be manufactured but it sure as hell can be cultivated. / Do it anyway, see what happens / don’t be scared of finishing up a good idea, or having a lukewarm idea show up in the middle of a good session, you will refine it until it’s bangin /

Let’s make it bang people, let’s make it banging. We will be playing one of our new, banging, spring-fever-inciting gems on Friday, so come out to enjoy.
