Last night’s band practice.

Yesterday I told you about learning guitar chords that twisted my brain into an enamored frenzy. One reason I was able to focus so hard on something so challenging to me musically is because I’ve been battling laryngitis.

Ohhh, pobrecita, itty bitty sicky….

Nope. Pretty awesome. I mean it isn’t a pleasant sensation, but check it out:

Because my voice was in no shape for singing, that whole music part of my brain was free to really wrap itself around the tricky chords and arrangement of Dave’s beautiful guitar parts. Which is all well and good, but…

The band usually rehearses every Tuesday. But, because of the holidays, we haven’t played since the 12/15/09 at Red Devil. Plus, Matt Bizzy (keys) couldn’t make it. As some of you know, I used to play keys for the band, but we noticed it was at least 5 times as awesome when Matt joined us. (Two reasons: First, he can play three keyboards at the same time. Second, I can leap around like a very entertaining monkey, because I am a natural ham. Ham is a sort-of mean way of saying performer, but if you use it on yourself it’s not mean.)

Alas, we were sans le Matt last night, so I bust out my Juno G. It was awesome, once again, for two reasons: First, I couldn’t sing all the notes so I had another way to express myself musically and Second, all that wrapping-of-brain-around-guitar-in-new-ways translated mightily and boosted my skills on keys.

The true magic was as follows:

Dave was in top-notch form on those drums, it was like there was a very musical octopus in the room.
Alex played some Eddie Van Halen licks which made Dave extra happy
Andrew found massive inspiration as direct as a lightning bolt and
I already told you mine.

We all got into a bus like the one in the children’s book and it sprouted rockets and we lifted off into the ether….

This is the story of our 1/5/10 band practice. We have the band-love.
