Hello world…
The first song I ever wrote was in 7th grade. It was a rap inspired by learning about the assassination of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.
Years later I learned that the Lorraine Motel, where King was murdered, was a hub for Stax Records musicians. “In The Midnight Hour” was one song written there – a collaboration between Wilson Pickett and Steve Cropper. Dave and I wrote a song then, too.
The Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennesee has since been turned into the National Civil Rights Museum.
“Man is man because he is free to operate within the framework of his destiny. He is free to deliberate, to make decisions, and to choose between alternatives. He is distinguished from animals by his freedom to do evil or to do good and to walk the high road of beauty or tread the low road of ugly degeneracy.”
- Martin Luther King, Jr., The Measures of Man, 1959.
Here’s to choosing the good.
