Ice Skating: Fur, Velour, but no spills.

Yesterday I was corralled by a dapper man in a mustache, who swept me away from the computer and took me to the Oakland Ice Center, where we boldly slithered across the ice balanced on razor blades.

I’ve been once before, a Valentine’s day field trip in gradeschool. My older sister, ever the athlete, could fly around corners, but I spent most of the time clinging to the wall.

Not yesterday. Just call me Kristi (Yamaguchi). I didn’t fall once. I almost fell several times, especially when I would look at the cutie-pie kiddies falling; they threw my balance.

Favorites were as follows:

- A 7-year-old future ice dancer, he was winking and shooting thumbs up to his friends, and skating backwards, looked natural as can be.

- Teenage girl with obvious training, fit to burst holding back her double axle. Towards the end of the hour when the crowds thinned she got some kind of expert jump in there, landed flawlessly, and checked to see what kind of picture she’d captured of herself on her cell phone. Kids these days. Impressive.

- The man in a full-body red velour suit, competing with the man in the fur coat for Best Dressed, but I saw them afters and they had come together. Sweet.

- Hot tea afterwards.

In all, it was a chilly and welcome break from all this web stuff we’ve been doing. I raced my debonair suitor a few times, he beat me hands down but neither one of us fell down so…. win / win :)

Here’s to monday – we seem to have hit some great blogs, so check ‘em out!
