One week later…

Photo by Adam AufdencampOne week ago I woke up to a 5am text message from my sister in DC letting us know “Tore My Heart” was on iTunes. We had canceled Tuesday’s band practice so we could watch “So You Think You Can Dance” – and we rarely cancel band practice.

A lot can happen in a week. We met all of you, for instance :) I’ve hardly slept, I’ve learned more about website design than I thought possible for a brain like mine, and I have been amazed and honored and delighted seeing the feedback from all of you. We are so lucky to be able to share our music with you, and we do not take that for granted.

So last night we rehearsed, it had been two weeks, and oh BOY was it good. I can’t believe I get to sing in the GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME. Okay I admit, I am partial, but they sounded so good last night. We jammed on “Tore My Heart” for awhile, of course, that song has attracted so much energy in the past week it’s impossible to ignore it, and it was great: Alex (Doty) had this guitar tone that was sort of like the Radiohead song in Romeo & Juliet, do you know the one? It’s all tremolo’d out and warbly and sounds like a duel in a desert. Matt Berkeley (keys) opened up and was playing the most perfect ascension, if he hadn’t run out of keys he would have Ascended us right into the Heavens. Andrew (Lion, bass) was locking it down like a dragon in a dungeon, no WAY it’s going to escape, but with warmth and pleasure. Dave (Tweedie, drums) took us places I’ve only dreamed of, and they are beautiful trippy places, if I do say so myself. As for me, I closed my eyes and got all dissonant on you, it was “La la la” and twisting the words into brand new meanings, and of course my inevitable improvised dancing, a stiff ballerina doll, a marionette, a 9-foot-tall toothpick, a graceful floating tutu, in my mind.

Sigh. I have hardly slept since last Tuesday; reminded me of when I lived in Spain for a year, and then the last month I was there I hardly slept a wink, life was just too exciting. But last night I came home from band practice, took off my shoes, fell into bed, and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
