When I was a kid I really wanted to go to Disneyland. I think it was from when Robin Williams says in Aladdin, “Hey what are you gonna do next, I’m going to Disneyland” and my mom told me it was ’cause they say that after the Superbowl. So I got it stuck in my mind that I wanted to go to Disneyland. Plus one of my friends had all the cartooners’ autographs.
There was a giant sugar jar, seriously large, I cut a hole in the plastic lid and started a savings fund. My goal was everyone to put in two quarters a week. I had to ask how to spell Disneyland because it’s a long word for a small kid, I concentrated SOOOO hard on remembering the “E” in “Disney” and I was so proud – I showed it to my dad and he said “Dineyland”…. I had forgotten the “S”. There wasn’t another sugar jar around, so my fund was mislabeled and I was sad about that….
We gave up on the fund not long after that, and it turned into my parents’ coin jar. When I went to college my mom gave me all the quarters in it for laundry – a hefty collection.
Enough sentimentality folks. I finally got to go!! and it was wonderful. But, I caught a bug. You’ll see…
